Air Conditioner (AC) is a common name for an air cooling system. This cooling system cools the air after it is sent through wires containing cold refrigerant gas. The Air Conditioner contains the heat exchanger, compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and other control components making this system work.

We will look at the prices of AC, common brands & types of air conditioners in Pakistan. We also gave suggestions and tips about ac buying in local areas like Lahore, Islamabad, and Karachi. But first, let’s start with the basic working of AC.

Basic Working of AC

The heart of an air conditioner is the compressor. The gas temperature in the compressor rises as it is compressed and then falls again as it cools before being vaporized. The working fluid usually used is Freon or R134a (non-toxic gases) that do not readily burn or support combustion.

The most common type of air conditioner, known as a ‘split system,’ consists of an outdoor compressor/condenser unit and an indoor evaporator coil. As the gas is cooled in the evaporator coil, it becomes liquid again, so its pressure drops more than when it was a gas; this causes the refrigerant to flow through a tiny valve into a pipe leading back to the compressor, where it is recompressed and flows out again into the evaporator coil.

Types of Air Conditioners

Many air conditioners are available in the market for residential or commercial use. These vary based on cooling capacity, power consumption, and sound levels. Some of the more commonly used models are as mentioned below:

Window AC

These come with combined indoor and outdoor units, which allow some fresh air to cool into your room before being blown out again. The only disadvantage with this type of system is that they tend to be bulky and often installed in a window.

Split AC

Split AC is the most preferred type of air conditioner in Pakistan. It consists of an indoor unit with a compressor and condenser that connects to a separate outdoor unit through a set of copper pipes. These come in various types, such as Cassette AC, Console AC, etc.

Cassette AC

This air conditioning system is more challenging to install than the traditional split AC systems but occupies less space. They tend to be more expensive than other options but provide better comfort levels while saving utility bills over time.

DC Inverter AC

DC inverter air conditioners are newly designed technology with an inverter-driven compressor that adjusts their capacity according to room temperature. They are considered more energy efficient as they provide cool air at reduced power consumption levels.

Floor Standing AC

Floor Standing ACs are considered the most basic types of commercial air conditioners and can be easily placed within a hall or large room. They also offer good cooling capacity and are easy to install compared to other systems like cassette or split air conditioners.

Portable AC

Portable ACs are the smallest air conditioners available, with each type having unique features. They don’t need to go outdoor and have wheels for easy movement.

Recommendation to Buy an Air Conditioner in Pakistan

The Pakistan air conditioner market is progressing swiftly. Air conditioners are available in many brands and companies. Their prices vary from company to company. Here, we will discuss some tips on buying an air conditioner for your home or office.

Size & Cooling Capacity

When buying an air conditionel, determine the required cooling capacity of your room and select ac size accordingly. Air conditioners are available in different sizes, so knowing how much area your air conditioner can cover is essential.

The recommended capacity is 1-ton for standard rooms, 1.5-ton for medium rooms, and 2 tons for big halls or offices.

Brand

Brand value isn’t built over time. Good companies always try their best to save their brand reputation. Many air conditioner companies provide unique and extra features at a low price, like wifi features, anti-mosquito features, turbo cooling, etc. Buying an air conditioner from a trusted brand is recommended.

Types

A window air conditioner is the cheapest air conditioning system, but they do cause problems such as proper airflow is not possible. These ACs also distribute air just in one direction. Still, window AC has several advantages, such as if you live in an apartment, then any specific installation work is not required.

Although split AC needs to be installed outdoors specifically, they provide better cooling because split AC has high-speed fans, which cool down the rooms evenly. These AC can be fitted anywhere according to need. We recommend that you install it 5 feet above the ground. So cleaning is easy.

Although almost every AC is made with copper wiring nowadays, to be double sure, see if the AC is using the copper coil as copper is a good conductor and will save electricity compared with aluminum.
